JACKSONVILLE – This was festive, fun and important.
Liam Coen is busy this week. Really busy. And on Thursday night, the Jaguars' new head coach took the briefest of breaks from that busy-ness to speak again to Jaguars fans.
His message? That the organization is moving forward. Quickly.
"We're hitting the ground running," Coen said. "We're trying to hire the best staff possible to put these players in the best position to be successful. It starts there."
Coen, hired last Friday as the Jaguars' eighth head coach, has spent the week interviewing offensive and defensive coordinator candidates. On Thursday, he spoke to Jaguars season-ticket members at EverBank Stadium along with Pro Football Hall of Famer and Pride of the Jaguars member Tony Boselli.
Boselli, expected to have a significant role with the team moving forward, said of Coen on Thursday, "We got our guy."
"The future is very bright," Boselli said. "We got the guy we wanted to lead this organization and this franchise to a championship."
Added Boselli of Coen: "He has a clear picture of what he wants. Our job as an organization is just to support him however we can. [Owner] Shad [Khan] has said this, and I believe it: 'The job of the organization is to support the head coach and the players to give us the best chance to win. Those are the guys who are going to determine whether we win our lose.'''
Boselli, who was heavily involved in the head-coach search, called Coen "the leader of our organization." He said he knew quickly Coen was the ideal candidate when Coen explained his vision for the Jaguars and how he would address issues such as culture and personnel.
"I knew about five minutes in, 'This is the dude,''' Boselli said, adding: "It was so clear and concise. This is a guy who knows what it's supposed to look like and how he's going to do it. I am excited and pumped that we got the guy we wanted."
Boselli, too, said he expects Coen to be "great for [quarterback] Trevor [Lawrence]."
"I think you will see Trevor continuing to reach his potential," Boselli said. "We're going to have an exciting brand of football."

Coen, 39, spent this past season as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offensive coordinator. The Buccaneers finished fourth in the NFL in points and third in yards offensively in 2024. They were the only team in the NFL to finish in the Top 5 in the NFL in rushing and passing offense.
"His ability build and design an offense … that was the easiest part [of the decision to hire Coen],'' Boselli said. "Just turn on the tape, watch Tampa and what he did. It was top-notch. You watch the tape and then you listen to him, it's exciting."
Coen, as he did Monday during his introductory press conference, discussed multiple Jaguars-related topics including:
- The importance of toughness. "This game is about toughness, and how physically and mentally tough are we going to be. That's going to set the tone."
- On his philosophy of players not plays. "It has been a mentality that was instilled in me at a young age. If you can go to bed at night, look at yourself in the mirror and know, 'You got [wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr.] the ball 10 targets …' If you get these guys into game and into the flow, you can sleep good at night knowing you got your ball to the best player as many times as possible. If you do that, we'll see what happens."
- On his philosophy of what makes a successful organization. "It starts with a vision, and that's where we're at. We have a clear vision in terms of where we're trying to go. The football, we need to take care of that. Offense, defense, special teams … that's what we have to be able to take care of. If we can have clear, concise communication and have everybody be in alignment and try to go to this level – football, staff, players all included – usually good things happen."
- On Jaguars fans: "It's going to be an interesting few years. There are going to be different stadiums. It doesn't matter who we play and where we're playing, we have to show up. It doesn't matter. Show up. Show up and we'll put something on tape and we'll put a product on this field that you guys will be proud of. Anytime, anyplace – but it starts right here (EverBank Stadium)."
