JACKSONVILLE – This is a good group with some special at the top.
Tyler Warren is a big reason that's true – but if the Penn State senior is considered by many the top name of the 2025 NFL Draft tight end class, he's far from the only star.
There is talent and potential throughout this draft at an increasingly key position.
"It's a really, really good class," NFL and Jaguars Media Draft analyst Bucky Brooks said.
While Warren long has been considered a Top 10 selection, many analysts now consider Michigan tight end Colston Loveland at a similar level.
And while Warren and Loveland stand out as potential first-round selections, multiple players at the position could be selected on Days 1-2 – with players such Harold Fannin Jr. of Bowling Green and Mason Taylor of Louisiana State projected as possible second-round selections.
"It's a deep class," Brooks said.
Warren finished seventh in the Heisman Trophy voting in 2024, catching 104 passes for 1,233 yards and eight touchdowns. He also rushed 26 times for 218 yards and four touchdowns and completed three of six passes with a touchdown.

"He's so versatile – and with the ball in his hand, he's so good," ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. said. "He's an offensive entity, a receiving entity.
"He's right in that mix to be a Top 10 pick."
Brooks said Loveland, like Warren, "for sure grades as a first-rounder." He caught 56 passes for 582 yards and five touchdowns in 2024 after catching 45 passes for 649 yards and four touchdowns in 2023.
"They're similar in terms of high grades, but they're different in terms of playing style," Brooks said. "Warren wears 44 to pay homage to [Hall of Fame running back] John Riggins and he plays the game like The Diesel (Riggins) in terms of his physicality and toughness at the position.
"He can catch the ball over the middle and is a throwback at the position. He reminds me of what [San Francisco 49ers tight end George] Kittle has become."
Brooks called Loveland "more a true flex tight end."
"He's more of an all-around H-back type," Brooks said. "He's going to catch passes on improvised plays and work the middle of the field. This is like Gronk (former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski) versus [Kansas City Chiefs tight end] Travis Kelce in terms of how they do business, or Kittle versus Kelce. One can block, he can run, he can be physical, he can catch the ball out of the backfield.
"On the other side, you're looking at someone who just loves getting open and touching the ball, making it happen and doing it from a variety of mismatch spots."

Brooks called Fannin a "true H-back" and called Taylor – the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive end Jason Taylor – a "really good player who's not going to test well as an athlete."
"But if you watch him, he's probably the most physical, the most polished, the most ready to go of all those guys because he knows what it looks like to have success."
Brooks added, "It's a really deep class. Some of those second-round guys can step in and have success. If you're looking for a tight end, this is the year to really load up."
HANDICAPPING THE JAGUARS
- This is a tantalizing area for the Jaguars in the '25 draft. While tight end is not necessarily a major "need," circumstances could align to allow them to improve the position. The '25 offseason already has been one of dramatic change for the Jaguars here, with the team releasing three-year starter and nine-year veteran Evan Engram (47 receptions in 2024, 365 yards, one touchdown) just before the start of the 2025 NFL League Year. Third-year veteran Brenton Strange – a second-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft – began emerging in 2024 as a versatile tight end; he was one of the team's best run-blockers and caught 40 passes for 411 yards and two touchdowns. Engram's release was part of a reshaping of this position, with the team signing Johnny Mundt (19 receptions in 2024, 142 yards, two touchdowns) as an unrestricted free agent from the Minnesota Vikings and Hunter Long (seven receptions in 2024, 60 yards) as an UFA from the Los Angeles Rams. The Jaguars also allowed Luke Farrell to sign with the San Francisco 49ers as a UFA.
