JACKSONVILLE – Liam Coen was introduced to media and fans Monday.
Coen became the eighth head coach in franchise history last week, and four members of Jaguars media – senior writer John Oehser, senior correspondent Brian Sexton, senior reporter/editor J.P. Shadrick and team reporter Kainani Stevens – now share an observation from Monday's introductory press conference:
John Oehser, Jaguars Senior Writer…
- Coen impressively won the day Monday with his presence, enthusiasm and a notable emphasis on establishing an aligned culture around the organization. Not that there weren't multiple other notable storylines. Coen, who spent last season as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offensive coordinator, saying he "absolutely will be calling football plays." His belief that the Jaguars are "not a four-win" team. His clear belief in quarterback Trevor Lawrence. His heartfelt, urgent emphasizing on the offensive line, defensive line and running game. All was needed and positive stuff, as was Owner Shad Khan saying that Pride of the Jaguars member and Pro Football Hall of Famer Tony Boselli will have what likely will be a key role in the organization moving forward. But perhaps most significant was Coen's repeated emphasis on culture and alignment. "How do we go from winning games to not losing them? That's something we've got to address," he said. "That has got to be in our veins, in our DNA: the culture of winning. That's something that we have to start as a team, as a group and show how we're going to go do it." Circle that and stick it on the fridge. That was the theme of the day.

Brian Sexton, Jaguars Senior Correspondent…
- The numbers said that Coen was a great offensive mind. What he did with the Buccaneers' offense in one season was remarkable and proof that he knows how to score. But could a young coach who had never been a head coach at any level walk into the building and exert his will? Could he be the forceful presence and build a culture that defines great franchises? It's early but I think we saw and heard that on Monday from the eighth head coach in Jaguars history. Every answer Monday was forceful, forthright and demonstrated a depth of understanding of how to build a football team and win consistently. Coen is young but he already has lived a full life in football coaching at the college and NFL level. He now appears ready to take all he has learned and set out on his own road with his own team. It seems as if the Jaguars have won Step One in the process.

- Coen had the perfect balance of intensity, tone and excitement for his first day in front of the Jacksonville media. He seems like an approachable guy, but when the football gets real, he can turn on the intensity and keep it on. "Players over plays," "this is not a four-win team," and "communication and alignment at every level" were just a few things that stood out in a media availability full of nuggets. Coen grew up in a coaching family, has learned from some of the brightest minds at the NFL and collegiate levels and is ready to set the team's identity. Boselli being officially part of the interview process and having a more permanent role moving forward is massive news as well, and we will find out more about that role in the near future. The full culture shift is on here in Jacksonville.

- An overwhelming sense of enthusiasm entered the Miller Electric Center as Coen was officially introduced Monday. It was a stark contrast to the apathy that had settled into the building over the last season. I think the Jaguars did the right thing by focusing on a younger coach looking to prove himself. Coen's passion for the game and eagerness to get started showed through Monday. With a new start comes a new opportunity.
