JACKSONVILLE – Yannick Ngakoue has something special for next season.
But while the Jaguars' second-year defensive end said he indeed has a new sack celebration planned, he said such things pale in comparison to his No. 1 offseason priority:
Improving on a 2016 season in which he registered a Jaguars rookie record eight sacks.
"I want to improve on every aspect of my game," Ngakoue said during an appearance on O-Zone Live on Facebook Thursday. "There's not a particular or specific part of my game I want to focus on – just everything: hand placement, technique, playing against the run, developing more moves in the pass rush … There are a lot of things I want to work on."..
Ngakoue said he particularly wants to continue improving as a run defender, an area many analysts considered a weakness when he entered the NFL as a third-round selection in the 2016 NFL Draft. Ngakoue proved himself an every-down player as a rookie, starting 15 games and playing in run and pass situations.
"Coming into a lot of draft war rooms, I was just a third-down guy," Ngakoue said. "I wanted to show that I was a first-, second- and third-down guy. I feel like my greatest asset is just my motor and my effort. I never give up and a lot of people who get sacks are great effort guys.
"I always try to keep my motor high and running."
Ngakoue was asked during the appearance if he had a new sack dance for 2017 season. He said he did, but that he didn't plan to reveal it until the appropriate occasion.
"I've got one," he said, smiling. "It's just waiting to get revealed."
