The U.S. Women's National Team will face Mexico on Thursday, April 5, at EverBank Field in Jacksonville, Fla. (7 p.m. ET; FS1) in the first of two April friendlies between the teams. The matches will be previews of a possible meeting in CONCACAF Women's World Cup qualifying that will be held this coming fall.
The match will mark just the third visit to Jacksonville for the U.S. Women's National Team, which first played there when the stadium was named Jacksonville Municipal Stadium in a 2-1 loss to Norway in 1996. Most recently at EverBank Field, the WNT earned a 4-1 victory against Scotland in February of 2013. The SMG Jacksonville-managed venue is the home of the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars, which are owned by Shahid Khan, who also owns Fulham Football Club in London.
"We're thrilled to welcome the U.S. Women's National Team in their return to Jacksonville," said Jaguars President Mark Lamping. "EverBank Field and Daily's Place are built for world-class athletes, and the First Coast community has a strong history of embracing international soccer. The match presents another great opportunity to welcome fans to downtown Jacksonville and continue its growth as a premier destination for live sports and entertainment."
SMG Jacksonville's General Manager Bill McConnell added, "SMG Jacksonville is proud to support the U.S. Women's National Team vs. Mexico game on April 5th. It promises to be an exciting match-up between two elite teams of the highest caliber and SMG Jacksonville, on behalf of the City of Jacksonville, stands ready to ensure an outstanding experience for all who attend."
Tickets for the game in Jacksonville go on sale to the public Friday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m. ET through www.ussoccer.com, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or by visiting the Tom Bush Family of Dealerships Box Office at Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. Groups of 20 or more can order at ussoccer.com.
