Top of the morning news

"The final score wasn't of tremendous concern to Jack Del Rio. That's pretty much true of any NFL preseason game, and considering the circumstances – a slew of starters out and a game plan emphasizing evaluation more than outcome among them – the Jaguars' head coach wasn't going to worry much about the outcome." "No one expected his debut to be perfect, but what the Jaguars hoped to see out of their future starting quarterback was the composure, confidence and the ability that would translate into NFL success. Given a chance to start with Jaguars quarterback David Garrard injured, the rookie Blaine Gabbert showed he has it on Thursday night. That didn&39;t mean it was easy."  Florida Times-Union

"He did a nice job," Del Rio said of Gabbert. "I think he showed a little poise leading the team down and we had a couple of drops.  The good thing is I see him on the sidelines saying 'my bad, I could throw it better.'  I know one thing, it's great exposure for him and great experience.  We have to be a little sharper and we knew that coming in."

"It was good to get started after a couple of weeks of practices against ourselves,'' coach Bill Belichick said. "I thought there were some positive things tonight. We got off to a slow start . . . But we got a good look at a lot of people, the young players, got to see them against [Jacksonville's] top people, so we'll have some good film for evaluation.'' The Boston Globe

The Titans are intent on paying running back Chris Johnson if he reports to camp.

"Fortunately, Walter is neither a biologist nor a geneticist. What he is, however, is the best wide receiver on the Texans&39; roster who doesn&39;t wear No. 80, and there&39;s no shame in that. To some, though, an upgrade for Johnson&39;s sidekick is long overdue." *Houston Chronicle *

"Move over, Tom Bradyand Peyton Manning. There&39;s a fresh challenger to claim the, well, mythical throne reserved for the NFL&39;s best quarterback: Aaron Rodgers." USA Today

The last word

"Our organization and coaches have done a great job of getting good people in here with great character and good football players.  So far everybody is flying around and hitting whatever is moving.  As long as we continue to build and push in the right direction we will be fine."
