The Jaguars Foundation and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida are proud to present the 10th annual production of "Teens & Sex…The Real Truth," a one-hour televised forum for middle and high school students and their parents; in partnership with the Jacksonville media, and the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy to be aired during National Teen Pregnancy Prevention month. The show was produced at the WJCT PBS 7 studio, and will air from May 28 – June 5 on all Jacksonville television stations: WJXT-4; WJCT PBS-7; WTLV NBC-12; WCWJ CW-17; WJXX ABC-25; WAWS FOX-30; WTEV CBS-47 and Comcast Cable Channel 7 and 29. This program addresses issues that middle and high school students face today, such as peer pressure and the consequences of teen sex which include pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections such as HIV/AIDS. The purpose of the program is to promote thoughtful discussion, improve parent/child communication and encourage responsible behavior. The show is hosted by local broadcast personality Jennifer Candelino and features Jaguars player Joe Zelenka, ROAR cheerleaders and local radio personality DJ Dr. Doom. There will also be a special appearance by Jaguars co-owner and Jaguars Foundation Chair/CEO Delores Barr Weaver. A studio audience of middle and high school students will be discussing questions they have with medical experts Dr. Linda Dinerman and Dr. John Montgomery, as well as legal expert the Honorable Libby Senterfitt, 4th Circuit Court Judge. This is the 10th anniversary show and the 15th year of the Jaguars Foundation's Straight Talk program. The show features "flashbacks" from the past shows and programs, including current and former Jaguars players who have taken their time to give students the message to prevent teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections by making responsible choices. The show also includes students from prior years who share how Straight Talk has helped them in their lives and how all they learned has helped them be a support to their peers. The flashback also includes a 2008 performance from Middleburg native and Revolution Art national recording artist JADE, who performed a song she wrote to close out that show. Finalist entries of the Straight Talk Public Service Announcement (PSA) Contest will be aired on the show and home viewers can vote for their favorite PSA on-line at www.straighttalk.jacksonville.com. Entries are submitted from the greater Jacksonville area middle and high schools. The 2009 finalists are Douglas Anderson School for the Performing Arts, Middleburg High School and Paxon School for Advanced Studies. The winner will be judged on production quality, message, creativity and on-line votes. The Straight Talk website, straighttalk.jacksonville.com provides the opportunity to send any questions viewers want to have asked on the show, as well as list of resources.
