JACKSONVILLE – Shad Khan's message remains clear.
The Jaguars' owner on Saturday night reiterated his 2024 theme, one he reiterated to the team in late July.
"It's time for us to win now," Khan said.
Khan, speaking to the Jaguars' broadcast at halftime of the team's 26-13 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs at EverBank Stadium in a 2024 Preseason Week 1 game Saturday, discussed multiple topics. Among them: His speech to the team in late July as 2024 Training Camp began.
"All those expectations, they're clear to everyone," Khan said. "I thought it was important to restate them and it was very well-received."
Khan said he is "optimistic" entering the '24 season.
"Whatever we need to win, we have here," he said. "We have a great head coach (Doug Pederson). We have a great quarterback (Trevor Lawrence). We have great talent all around and a great facility. All the ingredients that go in [to winning] are here. We have to demonstrate that by winning."
Khan also discussed an offseason highlighted by the team re-signing recently drafted players such as Lawrence, defensive end Josh Hines-Allen and cornerback Tyson Campbell to long-term contracts.
"They've earned it," Khan said. "It's really proof-positive that we're drafting really great players. They're also great human beings. All of these players represent the city. They're Jaguars down to the deep core."
Khan on Saturday also discussed the Stadium of the Future, which was approved in June by the Jacksonville City Council.
"We worked for a long time and we wanted to get it right," Khan said. "One of the things I'm really proud of is how we went about it. We wanted to be responsible ecologically reusing as much as we can of the stadium without compromises. We did that in many different ways."
Khan added of the City of Jacksonville, "From the day I got here, talking to people, seeing all the assets we have, the potential is just unbelievable. For me, it was about bringing that all together. I'm a deep believer in, 'Never Doubt Jacksonville. A lot more people now, even outside the city, know our potential is unlimited."
