JACKSONVILLE – Day 2 got offensive fast.
That wasn't unexpected considering the Jaguars' decided defensive slant early the previous night, but the direction took an immediate turn early Friday night.
Laviska Shenault Jr., a wide receiver from Colorado, became the Jaguars' third selection of the 2020 NFL Draft. The Jaguars selected him with the No. 42 overall selection in Round 2 early Friday night having selected Florida cornerback C.J. Henderson No. 9 overall and Louisiana State defensive end/linebacker L'Kavon Chaisson No. 20 overall in Round 1 Thursday.
Shenault (6-feet-1, 227 pounds), who forewent his senior season to declare for the draft, caught 149 passes for 1,943 yards in three seasons at Colorado. He played in 32 career games.
He caught 56 passes for 764 yards and four touchdowns this past season after catching 86 passes for 1,011 yards and six touchdowns as a sophomore in 2018.
The selection came 10 picks into a second round that featured selections at a variety of positions early. Shenault was the third receiver drafted in the round.
The Cincinnati Bengals started Day 2 by selecting Clemson wide receiver Tee Higgins No. 33 overall followed by Southern California wide receiver Michael Pittman to the Indianapolis Colts at No. 34, Georgia running back De'Andre Swift to the Detroit Lions at No. 35, safety Xavier McKinney of Alabama to the New York Giants at No. 36, Lenoir-Rhyne safety Kyle Dugger to the New England Patriots at No. 37, Penn State edge rusher Yatur Gross-Matos to the Carolina Panthers at No. 38, offensive lineman Robert Hunt to the Miami Dolphins at No. 39, defensive tackle Ross Blacklock to the Houston Texans at No. 40 and running back Jonathan Taylor to the Indianapolis Colts at No. 41.
