The Jacksonville Jaguars signed third-year running back Delone Carter to a contract and placed running back Justin Forsett (foot) and wide receiver Stephen Burton (concussion) on injured reserve, the club announced today. The club also signed wide receiver Chad Bumphis to the practice squad and waived wide receiver Marcus Jackson.
Carter, 5-9, 232, has played in 26 games with three starts since being selected in the fourth round by the Indianapolis Colts in 2011. He has 133 career rushes for 499 yards and five touchdowns along with six catches for 31 yards. Carter rushed for 377 yards on 101 carries as a rookie in 2011 and finished with 32 carries for 122 yards in 2012. He was traded to Baltimore on August 21, 2013 and waived on August 30.
A native of Akron, Ohio, Carter was a four-year letterman at Syracuse where he totaled 3,104 yards on 646 carries for 24 touchdowns while adding 28 receptions for 208 yards and one touchdown. He concluded his collegiate career with 11 100-yard rushing games. Carter attended Copley High School in Ohio and finished his prep career with 77 touchdowns including 49 as a senior, when he was named Mr. Ohio Football.
Carter will wear jersey number 34.
Bumphis, 5-10, 202, was originally signed as a rookie free agent by Miami in 2013 and spent five weeks on Denver's practice squad. He was a three-year starter at Mississippi State, playing in 51 games and recording 159 receptions for 2,273 yards and 24 touchdowns.
Bumphis will wear jersey number 17.
