Official: Quarterman signs

JACKSONVILLE – One down, 11 to go.

The Jaguars have taken the first step toward having their 2020 draft class under contract, officially signing fourth-round selection Shaquille Quarterman.

A linebacker from the University of Miami and a fourth-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft – the No. 140 selection overall – Quarterman became the first of the team's 12 '20 draft selections to sign his rookie contract. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Quarterman (6-feet-0, 234 pounds), who attended Orange Park (Fla.) Oakleaf High School just outside Jacksonville, was a two-time first-team All-Atlantic Conference selection at Miami the past two seasons. He was second-team All-ACC in 2017.

He started 52 games at Miami, setting a school record for most career games without missing a start. He finished this past season with 107 tackles, 15.5 for loss, one sack and one forced fumble and finished his career with 356 tackles, 46.5 for loss, 13 sacks, one interception, 14 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and touchdown.

The rest of the Jaguars' rookie class: Cornerback CJ Henderson (Round 1, No. 9 overall, Florida), defensive end/linebacker K'Lavon Chaisson (Round 1, No. 20, Louisiana State) wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. (Round 2, No. 42, Colorado), defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton (Round 3, No. 73, Ohio State), offensive lineman Ben Bartch (Round 4, No. 116, St. John's), cornerback Josiah Scott (Round 4, No. 137, Michigan State), safety Daniel Thomas (Round 5, No. 157, Auburn), wide receiver Collin Johnson (Round 5, No. 165, Texas), quarterback Jake Luton (Round 6, No. 189, Oregon State), tight end Tyler Davis (Round 6, No. 206, Georgia Tech) and cornerback Chris Claybrooks (Round 7, No. 223, Memphis).
