JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars' roster continues to take shape.
With the 2021 free-agency period approaching, the Jaguars have signed yet another of their own players – a cornerback who emerged as a solid contributor last season.
Sidney Jones IV, who played at a high level for the Jaguars in nine games last season with six starts, re-signed with the Jaguars Tuesday morning. Jones was scheduled to become a free agent Wednesday – the first day of the NFL's 2021 League Year.
Jones, a second-round selection by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2017 NFL Draft, signed to the Jaguars' practice squad in September after being released by the Eagles. He joined the Jaguars' active roster in mid-September and moved into the starting lineup in Week 5.
He registered 25 tackles in 2020 with a career-high nine passes defensed, two interceptions and a forced fumble. He registered a career-high four passes defensed and an interception in a Week 5 loss to Houston.
The Jaguars last week re-signed veteran cornerback Tre Herndon, who signed with the Jaguars as a collegiate free agent shortly after the 2018 NFL Draft. He had been scheduled to become a restricted free agent on Wednesday.
The Jaguars on Monday re-signed veteran guard/center Tyler Shatley, who would have become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday.
