JACKSONVILLE – The order, at last, is official.
While it has been known for nearly three months that the Jaguars hold the No. 3 overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft – and while it has been known for a few weeks they hold 11 selections overall – the details have been on hold.
That's because the NFL was waiting to announce its compensatory selections, which it did last week at the 2014 NFL Annual Meeting in Orlando, Fla.
Once the compensatory selections were announced, the exact numbers and orders of the Jaguars' 11 selections were known, as well as the order for all 256 selections. And while the Jaguars – as expected – received no compensatory selections, several trades made over the last several seasons have resulted in the team having a slew of mid-round selections for the May 8-10 NFL Draft, which will be held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
The Jaguars hold five of the first 114 selections in the draft and seven of the first 150.
Jaguars General Manager David Caldwell has said several times this offseason he would be open to trading down from the No. 3 selection to get more selections, but as of March 31, the Jaguars hold the following selections:
Round 1 (No. 3, No. 3 overall), Round 2 (No. 7, No. 39 overall), Round 3 (No. 6, No. 70 overall), Round 4 (No. 5, No. 105 overall), Round 4 (No. 14 from Baltimore, No. 114 overall), Round 5 (No. 4, No. 144 overall), Round 5 (No. 10 from Detroit, No. 150 overall), Round 5 (No. 19 from Baltimore, No. 159 overall), Round 6 (No. 3, No. 179 overall), Round 6 (No. 29 from San Francisco, No. 205 overall) and Round 7 (No. 7, No. 222 overall).
The selections from Baltimore came from a trade during the 2013 season involving left tackle Eugene Monroe, with the selection from Detroit coming from a trade during the 2012 season involving wide receiver Mike Thomas. The selection from San Francisco came from a trade earlier this month involving quarterback Blaine Gabbert.
