JACKSONVILLE – The top guy remains a consensus, which still seems unlikely to change.
Clemson University quarterback Trevor Lawrence was a unanimous choice for the No. 1 overall selection by the Jaguars in this week's ninth jaguars.com 2021 mock draft tracker. All 13 analysts in this tracker projected Lawrence No. 1 overall, as all analysts did in all eight previous trackers.
The Jaguars' second selection in the '21 draft – No. 25 overall – remained far less certain. First, though, a look at what multiple analysts wrote about Lawrence:
*Michael Renner, Pro Football Focus: "No one they could have signed in free agency is changing this one."
*Ryan Wilson, CBS Sports: "Put it on the board."
*Rob Rang, Fox Sports: "Rocket-armed, highly mobile and poised beyond his years, Lawrence is quite simply the elite talent in the 2021 draft. Further, he is an ideal schematic fit in [Jaguars Head Coach] Urban Meyer's offense."
*Bucky Brooks, NFL and Jaguars Media: "It is the beginning of a new era in Duval, with Urban Meyer selecting Lawrence to be the franchise quarterback for the next decade-plus."
*Tom Fornelli, CBS Sports: "He's the pick. He's always been the pick."
Analysts' projections at No. 25, as increasingly has been the case in recent weeks, was largely split between defensive players and offensive linemen – with focus on Texas Christian safety Trevon Moehrig and Alabama defensive tackle Christian Barmore.
Four analysts, including Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN and Bucky Brooks of Jaguars/NFL Media, projected Moehrig there.
"Adding a ballhawk to a defense that struggled to generate turnovers in 2020 is a top priority for the Jaguars," Brooks wrote of Moehrig.
Three analysts projected Barmore at No. 25, and two more projected Oklahoma State offensive lineman Teven Jenkins there.
"Barmore has the bulk, power and athleticism to play up and down the line, giving the Jaguars plenty of options as they decide whether to feature a 4-3 or 3-4 alignment," Rang wrote of Barmore, with Zierlein writing of Jenkins: "The Jaguars would be well served to look in the direction of this powerful blocker who would give them an option at either guard or tackle as an immediate starter."
Also projected at No. 25: Notre Dame linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Louisiana State wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr., Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons and Alabama offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood.
"Marshall is only scratching the surface of what he could be, as he is yet to even turn 21 years of age," Renner wrote.
