JACKSONVILLE – If it's variety you seek, look not here. At least not at the top.
Trevor Lawrence, projected to the Jaguars at No. 1 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft by pretty much every analyst for the past two months, remains projected there by pretty much every analyst.
That's the story for this seventh jaguars.com mock draft tracker, just as in Versions 1-6.
We'll get to the Jaguars' selection at No. 25 overall in a few paragraphs, but here's what some of the 10 analysts in this week's tracker wrote about Lawrence – a quarterback from Clemson University who long has been considered this draft's top prospect:
*Trevor Sikkema of The Draft Network: "There's no need to overthink this. Lawrence is the pick."
*Doug Farrar of USA Today Touchdown Wire: "Lawrence is the best player in the 2021 class, and he has that high floor/high ceiling combination every team wants at every position, but especially at quarterback."
*Chris Trapasso, CBS Sports: "There's some speculation [Brigham Young quarterback Zach] Wilson is viewed ahead of Lawrence by some teams. I don't buy it."
*Charley Casserly, NFL.com: "No surprise here. [Jaguars Head Coach] Urban Meyer strikes gold with franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence to start the rebuild."
The Jaguars' selection at No. 25, obtained from the Los Angeles Rams in the 2019 trade for cornerback Jalen Ramsey, remains a greater mystery – with Alabama defensive tackle Christian Barmore and Texas Christian safety Trevor Moehrig both projected there by three analysts.
"There are a handful of impact safeties waiting to be selected in this class, Moehrig being the best of them," Sikkema wrote, with NFL.com and former NFL General Manager Charley Casserly writing of Barmore: "The Jags couldn't stop the run last season, so this pick is dedicated to shoring up that weakness. I also won't be surprised if they choose to sign another defensive tackle in free agency."
Other projections at No. 25 this past week included: Oklahoma EDGE Ronnie Perkins, Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons, Oklahoma State offensive tackle Teven Jenkins and Michigan EDGE Kwity Paye.
"Ronnie Perkinsis maybe the most well-rounded pass rusher in the 2021 class," Matthew Valdovinos of Pro Football Network wrote, with Trapasso writing: "Jenkins is a high-floor prospect who'd work well protecting Lawrence in Jacksonville because of his balance and powerful hands."
