Mock Draft Tracker 1.0: Expected consensus at No. 1

JACKSONVILLE – No surprise here:

When it comes to the No. 1 overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, pretty much every analyst agrees the Jaguars will select Clemson University quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

Lawrence therefore not unexpectedly was the consensus selection by the Jaguars at No. 1 overall in this first Jaguars.com 2021 mock draft tracker, but what about the Jaguars' second selection of the first round?

That's where the mystery figures to exist for the Jaguars come April, so there likely will be far more discussion and intrigue there in the coming months. So, the focus of this spring's jaguars.com mock draft trackers figure to focus there far more often than not.

We'll get to the second selection in a moment. First, here's what a few selected analysts are saying about the Jaguars and Lawrence:

*The Draft Network's Kyle Crabbs: "My only question about Jacksonville and this selection is if they plan on making us wait out their full duration of time on the clock before turning in the card."

*CBS Sports' Chris Trapasso: "Rumors about a new coach potentially coming to town with Ohio State ties started some Justin Fields speculation, but the Jaguars are going to pick Lawrence. And they should."

*CBS Sports' Josh Edwards: "We all need stability in our lives after the past year; Trevor Lawrence being taken No. 1 overall is the stability that we all need."

*Pro Football Focus' Michael Renner: "Feel free to turn in the card before April 29, Jacksonville; at the very least, please don't use up the whole 10-minute clock."

The Jaguars' direction later in Round 1 is less certain, as is exactly where they will select. The Jaguars obtained the selection from the Los Angeles Rams in the 2019 trade involving cornerback Jalen Ramsey, and the selection will be somewhere between No. 25 to No. 32 depending on how the Rams fare in the rest of the postseason.

Offensive line has been a popular direction later in Round 1, with Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports among three analysts projecting Texas offensive tackle Samuel Cosmi with the selection.

"Lawrence must be protected at all costs," Trapasso wrote. "Cosmi is a quality pass protector with an upward-pointing arrow because he showed more strength in 2020 than he had in previous seasons."

Joe Marino of The Draft Network wrote of Cosmi: "a long and athletic blocker that has silky smooth movement skills that should make him an outstanding pass blocker in the NFL."

Other selections for the Jaguars' second selection of Round 1: Clemson cornerback Derion Kendrick, Southern California interior offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker, Iowa defensive tackle Daviyon Nixon, Ohio State wide receiver Chris Olave and South Carolina cornerback Jaycee Horn.

"It is not sexy but Chris Olave is consistent," Edwards wrote, with The Draft Network's Brentley Weissman writing: "Vera-Tucker has the size, balance, and strength to be an impact player from Day One."
