Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Byron Leftwich has undergone examinations of his left knee, which was injured in Sunday's game at Houston. Leftwich was hit on the knee in the second quarter and left the game for two plays before returning to complete the game.
Leftwich underwent an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) exam and tests late Monday in Jacksonville, and today he was examined by a second doctor in Birmingham, Alabama. The injury has been diagnosed as a knee sprain.
At this time all indications are that surgery will not be necessary. Leftwich will rest and rehab the knee during the team's bye week. He will be re-evaluated on Monday and his status and prognosis will be updated at that time.
