The Jacksonville Jaguars are delighted to announce that throughout 2024 its flagship grass roots proposition JagTag, was played by 100,000 young people.
Launched in 2016, JagTag is the Jaguars' bespoke version of Flag football delivered in the UK and Republic of Ireland. JagTag is taught in multiple schools and venues through delivery partners, trained by the Jaguars UK team. At inception, the intention was to grow the game of American football and underpin the Jaguars commitment to the UK by providing the first point of contact for young people to understand the basic rules of the sport and enjoy participating in physical activity.
Since 2016, the growth of the Jaguars programs within communities in which the Jaguars operate has been exponential, with Manchester, London, Liverpool and Belfast being the leaders in terms of participation. A simplified version of American football, JagTag teaches young people the fundamental skills, techniques, and tactics of the game and is a chance to experience a sport outside of the mainstream activities and core sports delivery in schools. It is easy to pick up, is fully inclusive and encourages children to work as a team and think tactically.
JagTag is now being played in over 350 school sites or community centers across the country and boasts 35% female participation. The initiative is run within the school physical education curriculum, including Breakfast, Lunch, After School Clubs, and Holiday Camps, alongside new venues and territories across the UK and Ireland.
Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan said that he is proud that through our grassroots program we have now reached more than 100,000 young people across the UK and Ireland during 2024, helping to grow the sport of American Football and encouraging young people to get active through the work we do in local communities.
"To reach this milestone for our core delivery program is an incredible achievement, said Maria Gigante, VP of International Operations. We have worked hard since the launch of JagTag and subsequently the Union Jax Foundation to ensure we are able to have a meaningful impact within the communities we work, and I'm delighted that next month will see the inaugural Foundation Day launch in Brent, bringing together young people for a fun activity packed day in one of our most underserved boroughs. Our community work continues throughout the year, not just during our game week at Wembley Stadium and we are very proud of this milestone as it is a testimony to the dedication of the UK team and the partners with whom we work."
