Tank Bigsby Delivers Game-Changing Performance for Jaguars | Game That Was

WEEK 7 Game That Was

LONDON – They gassed up the Tank, and it was good.

Tank Bigsby rushed for more than 100 yards for the Jaguars yet again, and the second-year running back was key to a running game that was strong at a very important time.

The Jaguars needed a big-time performance Sunday, and Bigsby was just that.

"I just got in a rhythm – stayed patient, stayed calm," he said. "I waited for opportunities to come, and when they came, I took full advantage of them."

Bigsby, a third-round selection by the Jaguars in the 2023 NFL Draft, rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries in a 32-16 victory over the New England Patriots at Wembley Stadium Sunday.

"We ran the ball great today," Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence said. "That always helps."

Jaguars Head Coach Doug Pederson called Bigsby's game "a great effort."

"He's done a really good job for us," Pederson said. "He's earned the right to be out there. He's earned an opportunity and he did a nice job today. He ran hard, ran tough. As they say, he ran behind his pads.

"The offensive line did a great job for him, the tight ends, but he did the rest."

The Jaguars outrushed New England, 171-38, with running back D'Ernest Johnson rushing for 38 yards on nine carries.

"The run game is a mindset in the National Football League," Pederson said. "It takes a lot of people, not just the offensive line. I just thought today was a complete game."

Bigsby's second 100-yard rushing game in three games came in his first NFL start. He started in place of running back Travis Etienne Jr., who missed Sunday's game with a hamstring injury sustained in a loss to the Chicago Bears at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last Sunday.

"I'm a believer where injury doesn't replace your position," Pederson said. "I think you have to have a fair competition. We're blessed to have two really good running backs right now. When Etienne comes back, he's just as explosive, just as good, just as powerful. It's still his job.

"Tank has done some really good things. We'll continue to find ways to put the ball in his hands."

Said Bigsby, "I just do whatever I have to do for this team to win. My job is to do whatever I have to do and take advantage of opportunities. I just want to help this team win and it's what I try to do to the best of my ability.

"All of us are good backs. Coach puts us in different positions and we just have to execute our jobs when we have the opportunity. Keep growing as a player, keep growing as a team and keep doing what I have to do to help the Jags win."

NOTABLE

  • Jaguars safety Andre Cisco spoke to the media following Sunday's victory, addressing comments he made he made following last Sunday's loss to the Bears that he had seen "a lot of quit" in the team during the game. He said he spoke to teammates about the comments this past week. "The general reaction was, 'Were you talking about somebody in particular?''' he said. "Once that kind of cleared the air, I would say the conversations were productive. They were along the lines of how I felt in my personal position on the field. Obviously, I didn't say it how I wanted to in that moment. It was just raw emotion. It definitely allowed each other to talk about it. Some guys were like, 'Oh, I heard about your quote. Were you talking about somebody in particular?' Once was like, 'No, not at all. It was mostly just the feel of the game.'''

QUOTABLE BITS FROM WEEK 7 POSTGAME MEDIA AVAILABILITY

  • Pederson: "We have to duplicate the energy. We have to duplicate what we did over here. This week in practice has been one of our better weeks of practice. We have to be able to carry this all the way back and do it again. That's what this thing is. It's a short-term memory. You just try to go 1-0 each week."
  • Lawrence on winning a home game at Wembley: "The fans were amazing. What a crowd today. Every year it's like that. We enjoy being over here. It's pretty unique. Being over here every year, it really does feel almost like a second home. We really do feel more at home here than a lot of teams do."
  • Lawrence: "We have to get on track and find some momentum. We have to start rattling off some wins. That's where we're at. That's always the mindset, but especially where we're at now. We don't have any more time to waste. We've put ourselves in a little bit of a whole. We've been in this situation before. We know what we have do to."
