The Jacksonville Jaguars signed veteran quarterback Todd Bouman and first-year kicker Sam Swank, the club announced today. The team waived rookies Cole Brodie and Brandon Harper. The Jaguars' roster stands at 90 players.
Bouman, 6-2, 226, had three different stints with the Jaguars in 2010. He was signed by the club on September 21 and served as the backup quarterback for two games before he was released on October 5. He was re-signed on October 20 and started at Kansas City four days later for an injured David Garrard. At age 38, he was the oldest quarterback to ever start a game for the Jaguars. He finished 18 of 34 passing for 222 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions against the Chiefs, leading the Jaguars to scores on four of their first five possessions. After being released on November 9, he was re-signed on December 17 for the final three weeks of the season.
Bouman is in his 12thNFL season and has played in 43 games with seven starts. He spent four weeks on the Jaguars' roster in 2007 after an injury to Garrard and also spent time in the club's 2008 and 2009 training camps. He was signed by Baltimore prior to the 2008 season-opener and spent the entire season with the Ravens. He dressed but did not play as the 3rd quarterback for the final 10 weeks including the postseason.
Bouman's career totals include 147 of 264 passing for 1,905 yards with 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He started three games in 2001 for Minnesota and three games in 2005 with New Orleans.
Swank has spent time with Philadelphia, Cincinnati and the New York Giants since entering the NFL as a rookie free agent in 2009. The Jacksonville native played in two games for the Hartford Colonials of the UFL in 2010. He was a four-year letterman at Wake Forest and left as the school's all-time leading scorer. Swank attended Fletcher High School in Neptune Beach.
