Jaguars sign CB Will Blackmon, waive CB Marcus Burley

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed seventh-year cornerback Will Blackmon, the club announced today.  Rookie cornerback Marcus Burley was waived from the roster.

Blackmon, 6-0, 210, has played in 43 games with two starts over six seasons and totaled 21 tackles, five fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.  He averaged 9.5 yards on 67 career punt returns and boasts a 20.7-yard career average on 81 kickoff returns.   Blackmon was originally a fourth-round draft pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2006 where he played in 32 games with two starts over four seasons.   He was signed as a free agent by the New York Giants in the middle of the 2010 season and spent parts of two seasons with the club.  Blackmon was not on a roster in 2012 and spent the 2013 preseason with the Seattle Seahawks before he was waived on August 27.

A native of Providence, Rhode Island, Blackmon played three seasons at Boston College (2002-05) where he saw action as a defensive back and wide receiver.  As a senior, he caught 51 passes for 763 yards in his lone season as a wide receiver.  He totaled 46 tackles and three interceptions as a junior at defensive back and earned All-Big East honors.  Blackmon attended Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick, R.I., where he was named Gatorade Rhode Island Player of the Year following his senior season.
