JACKSONVILLE – There was a time to remember and there is a time to move forward.
The Jaguars spent the past two days remembering and trying to learn from their most one-sided loss of the season. Wednesday was about the next task.
"It's part of our job to move on," quarterback Trevor Lawrence said.
That meant putting a loss to the San Francisco 49ers this past Sunday in the rearview and preparing for the Tennessee Titans at EverBank Field Sunday – the first of back-to-back games in the AFC South for the division-leading Jaguars (6-3). The Jaguars visit the second-place Houston Texans (5-4) next Sunday.
"They want to right the ship," Jaguars Head Coach Doug Pederson said. "Seeing the guys today, they're obviously disappointed, they're dejected – not our best performance. You're only as good as your last game. You put that on tape.
"All our opponents moving forward are going to watch that film and that's not good. I do think the guys really embraced it. It means something to them, which is good. I'm sure they'll bounce back."
Jaguars wide receiver Christian Kirk said he spoke to the offense Wednesday with a message of not losing confidence.
"We're still a good football team," Kirk said. "We're still a team that won five games in a row and nobody should forget about that. For us it's just not losing confidence."
Added Kirk, "Everybody's disappointed with what happened on Sunday. It stings a little bit more. All you can do is use it as motivation. We have enough veterans in this locker room to know this league isn't easy. It should hurt. You should be embarrassed.
"You use it as motivation to move on and get one week better."
The Jaguars are 2-1 in the South this season, with two victories over the fourth-place Indianapolis Colts and a home loss to Houston in Week 3. The Texans loss was one of three home losses, with the lone home victory over Indianapolis in Week 6.
The Jaguars are unbeaten this season away from Jacksonville, winning a home game at Wembley Stadium in London over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3 and winning all five road games.
"You just stick to your process," Pederson said. "One of the things I've learned over my career as a player and a coach is you don't change a lot. The guys have to understand you just continue to do the things that you do to prepare. We just have to learn from our mistakes and then move on."
The Jaguars in Pederson's two seasons as head coach have lost four games by 10 or more points – 27-17 to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022, 40-14 loss to the Detroit Lions in 2022, 37-17 loss to the Houston Texans in Week 3 this season and 34-3 to the 49ers Sunday.
They are 3-0 following the previous three such losses, winning five consecutive games after the losses to Detroit and Houston.
"It counts the same," Lawrence said. "Whether you lose by 30 or you lose by three, it's still a loss. It obviously feels worse in some ways because you get embarrassed. Especially at home, that's not a good feeling, but it still goes as a loss. You still have to play the next week. Even if we won that game, it's one win and we still have eight more games left in the season.
"The more you deal with some adversity, you get used to being able to turn the page. You want that to sit and you want that feeling of frustration, that drive to go and play better. We all have that today and throughout the week we're going to carry that.
"But you also have to turn the page and can't be thinking about San Francisco anymore. We have to play a good division team, and this is a big game for us. This is a big one."
NOTABLE
- Wide receiver Zay Jones practiced limited Wednesday. Jones was arrested Monday for domestic battery, with Pederson saying Wednesday information gathering continues regarding the situation. "Quite honestly, until we hear something, it's day to day for him," Pederson said. Jones has missed the last four games with a knee issue that has limited him to three games this season. "We'll try to get him back up to speed football-wise," Pederson said. "He's missed a few days – a few weeks, obviously. We'll just see where he's at."
NOTABLE
- Wide receiver/returner Jamal Agnew did not practice Wednesday because of a shoulder injury sustained Sunday against San Francisco and Pederson said he will not play Sunday. "He could potentially miss a couple of weeks here," Pederson said. The Jaguars opened wide receiver Parker Washington's 21-day window to return from injured reserve Wednesday. Washington, who practiced limited Wednesday, serves as the backup returner when healthy and Pederson said he could return from a knee injury as early as Sunday. Cornerback Tyson Campbell remains "day-to-day" with a hamstring injury that kept him out two games before playing and reaggravating the area Sunday. He did not practice Wednesday. Also practicing limited Wednesday: Rookie right tackle Anton Harrison (back) and defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris (ankle).
