The Jacksonville Jaguars placed running back Maurice Jones-Drew on injured reserve with a foot injury and signed rookie defensive tackle Jerome Long off Kansas City's practice squad, the club announced today. Jones-Drew missed nine games after injuring his foot at Oakland on Oct. 21.
Long, 6-4, 285, was a seventh-round draft pick of the Chiefs in the 2012 draft and spent the first 15 games on the club's practice squad. He was a four-year letterman at San Diego State. Long earned All-Mountain West Conference second-team honors as a senior after totaling a career-high 69 tackles, eight tackles for loss and five sacks. He started 10 of 13 games as a junior and posted six tackles for loss and 30 tackles.
A native of Los Osos, California, Long attended Morro Bay High School where he played along the defensive line and at tight end. He also was a member of the wrestling team where he earned three league titles.
Long will wear jersey number 70.
