One week after the Jaguars announced that they were bringing back their beloved Prowler Throwbacks during the 2024 Season, they surprised fans with another uniform update. This time, for their official "Shell White" Alternate Helmet, a sleek, all white, matte shell. The helmet will debut during their Week 10 matchup versus the Minnesota Vikings.
What is the meaning behind "Shell White?" The Jaguars sat down for a Q&A with Head Equipment Manager, George Pellicer, to break down the details and the symbolism of this new addition to the Jaguars' equipment room.
Q: What inspired the Jaguars alternate helmet?
A: One of the best parts of my job here at the Jaguars is mixing up uniform color combinations to see what looks cool. For this helmet, and to honor our 30th season here in Jacksonville, we wanted to pay homage to our diverse fan base, unifying the power of sports, our location and a vital component of our community - the military.
Q: What does 'Shell White' mean to Jacksonville?
A: Shell White connects three primary pillars that make the city of Jacksonville what it is today. These three pillars: The Beach, The Military and Football are all protected by or made beautiful by some variation of shells - seashells, jacket shells, and football shells.
Q: Tell us about your favorite part/element of the helmet.
A: My favorite element is that it is something completely different than anything we have ever worn. The Jacksonville Jaguars have always worn some form of black helmets so, this will be a creative twist that we have not done yet. Plus, it will be fun to see the fan's reactions.
Q: Tell us about the process of getting these made.
A: With our "Throwback" Helmet being the same color as our current helmet, having the option to bring an Alternate helmet into the running gave us an opportunity to add an alternate color into the mix. We looked at many different options of color shades as well as finishes, and we settled on the white matte finish and decals, with as many black accents as we could add.
Q: What are the significant details or elements of the alternate helmet?
A: The Matte finish. The full helmet along with all of the decals have a matte finish, which is also different than anything we've done so far. Additionally, the 3D "JAX" written on the front face plate is a unique - and cool - feature to this helmet style.
Q: What game will these helmets be worn for, and what is the future plan for these in years to come?
A: For the 2024 season, the helmets will be worn for the Jaguars home game versus the Minnesota Vikings on November 10. The number of games it will be worn in future seasons has yet to be determined but, we are excited for the future of these helmets.
