JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Josh Allen is now signed through 2023.
The Jaguars on Thursday announced they had exercised the fifth-year option on Allen, an option available because Allen was a Round 1 selection – No. 7 overall – in the 2019 NFL Draft. All NFL rookies drafted in the first round sign four-year contracts with the team having an option for a fifth year.
Allen, a defensive end/outside linebacker, has started 26 of 40 games played in three seasons – including 15 of 16 this past season. He has registered 20.5 career sacks, including a career-high 10.5 as a rookie. Allen made the Pro Bowl following his rookie season.
He registered 7.5 sacks last season and 12 tackles for loss with four passes defensed, an interception and a forced fumble.
