JACKSONVILLE – Jake Luton will be the Jaguars' backup quarterback Sunday.
That became official late Sunday morning, when quarterback Gardner Minshew II was made inactive for the team's game against the Cleveland Browns at TIAA Bank Field.
Veteran Mike Glennon was named the starter this week after Luton – a rookie sixth-round draft selection who started the last three games – threw four interceptions in a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last week.
Minshew, who started the first seven games of the season, will miss a fourth consecutive game with a thumb injury. Head Coach Doug Marrone this week said he planned to increase Minshew's throws in practice and there was a possibility Minshew could backup Glennon against the Browns.
Minshew had been listed as questionable on the team's final injury report of the week Friday.
Minshew was among seven Jaguars players made inactive 90 minutes before kickoff Sunday. The others: wide receiver DJ Chark Jr. (ribs), wide receiver Chris Conley (hip), running back Dare Ogunbowale (hand), cornerback Sidney Jones IV (Achilles), tight end Tyler Davis and defensive end Reggie Gilbert.
Chark, Conley and Jones had been ruled out Friday.
