Gattis makes safety deeper

With an eye on safety, the Jaguars turned to Wake Forest's Josh Gattis to make their second pick at the position in this draft. Whereas first-round pick Reggie Nelson is more of a free-wheeling ball-hawk, Gattis is a more compactly-built hitter.

The Jaguars selected Gattis in the fifth round with the 150th overall pick. He possesses a good combination of size, speed and strength and is thought to offer down-the-road starter potential.

Nelson, of course, will address an immediate need at free safety, where the Jaguars lost veteran Deon Grant in free agency. Strong safety Donovin Darius heads into his 10th season and is coming off a significant leg injury. Gattis will deepen the position and heighten the competition.
