DETROIT, Michigan – Telvin Smith is going to play Sunday.
In news that was expected since Friday, the Jaguars on Sunday confirmed that Smith will play against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field.
Smith, the Jaguars' starting weak-side linebacker, missed practice Wednesday and Thursday and was away from the team much of the week following the shooting death of his brother – Brian Moore – in Valdosta, Georgia, last Sunday.
Smith attended Moore's funeral Saturday and joined the team in Detroit later that day.
Smith was not among the Jaguars' seven game-day inactives for Detroit. The seven inactives were Otto linebacker Dan Skuta (back), offensive lineman Jeremiah Poutasi, quarterback Brandon Allen, wide receiver Bryan Walters (concussion), cornerback Josh Johnson, defensive tackle Richard Ash and defensive end Chris Smith (eye).
Skuta had been sharing time at the Otto position with rookie Myles Jack. Walters will be out for the second consecutive week with the concussion, and Smith also will miss a second consecutive game with his eye issue.
