JACKSONVILLE – The time was new, and the heat stayed very much the same.
The heat, actually, may have gotten a little more intense. It at least felt that way as the Jaguars went through a one-hour, fifty-minute closed practice Thursday afternoon on Day 16 of 2021 Training Camp at the Dream Finders Homes Practice Complex.
It was the first afternoon practice after 15 morning practices during '21 camp. Temperatures reached 89 degrees and felt like 101. The work was in shoulder pads and helmets.
The Jaguars on Thursday continued working heavy on situations, working extensive 11-on-11 run situations early in practice and also working on punt situations. They also held a seven-on-seven period with an accompanying pass-rush/pass-block period and multiple other 11-on-11 situations.
Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell spoke to the media before practice Thursday, as did wide receiver Jamal Agnew and safety Jarrod Wilson. Coverage of all three availabilities can be seen Thursday on Jaguars Media channels and jaguars.com.
Head Coach Urban Meyer and quarterback Trevor Lawrence are scheduled to speak to the media Friday, with the Jaguars scheduled to play the New Orleans Saints in New Orleans, La., Monday in a preseason Week 2 game.
Here's a look at Thursday's practice:
PLAY OF THE DAY
The Jaguars went run-heavy during much of practice Thursday, with an extensive team-run period early. Veteran quarterback Gardner Minshew II hit wide receiver Phillip Dorsett II on a long touchdown pass during that drill. But the play of the day came shortly thereafter, with rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence throwing 30 yards down the middle on a line to wide receiver Pharoh Cooper – a high-velocity pass that showed as much arm strength and accuracy as any pass Lawrence has thrown all camp.

*Lawrence had an impressive deep touchdown pass to Agnew in an 11-on-11 drill late in practice and also completed a 20-yard pass to wide receiver Collin Johnson. …
*Kicker Josh Lambo went four-for-four on field goals of plus-40 yards later in practice. …
*Running backs Dare Ogunbowale and Nathan Cottrell both had powerful runs for eight-to-10 yards in a run drill early in practice. …
NOTABLE
*Cornerback Tre Herndon continued to miss practice after sustaining a strained medial collateral ligament in Saturday's preseason-opening loss to Cleveland. Head Coach Urban Meyer said this week Herndon is week-to-week.
