Owens signs, one left

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed rookie wide receiver/kick returner Chad Owens to a contract today. Owens was drafted in the sixth round and was one of eight players selected by the Jaguars in the 2005 NFL Draft in April. Only first round draft pick Matt Jones remains unsigned.

Owens, 23, was the 185th overall selection in the draft. The 5-7, 183-pounder finished his four-year career at Hawaii as the team's all-time leader in all-purpose yards, receptions and punt return yards. The Honolulu native led the squad with 102 receptions for 1,290 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior. He also set the school record with five punts returned for touchdowns in 2004.

All 88 Jaguars are under contract except for this year's top draft pick Matt Jones.
