JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars have selected defense. Yet again.
Christian Braswell, a cornerback from Rutgers University, on Saturday was selected by the Jaguars in Round 6 of the 2023 NFL Draft – the No. 202 overall selection.
He was the fifth defensive player the Jaguars selected in their first six Day 3 selections.
Braswell (5-feet-11, 185 pounds), who began his career at Temple before playing his final collegiate season at Rutgers, started five games at corner in 2022 and played in 12. He was selected second-team All-Big 10 by Pro Football Focus and honorable mention All-Big 10 by the media.
Braswell became the second Rutgers player selected by the Jaguars in the NFL Draft, the first since wide receiver Tiquan Underwood (Round 7, 2009).
The Jaguars earlier Saturday selected Florida linebacker Vontrell Miller (Round 4, No. 121 overall), Oklahoma State defensive end Tyler Lacy (Round 4, No. 130 overall), Louisville linebacker Yasir Abdullah (Round 5, No. 136 overall), Texas A&M safety Antonio Johnson (Round 5, No. 160 overall) and Penn State wide receiver Parker Washington (Round 6, No. 185 overall).
The Jaguars also on Saturday traded the No. 127 overall selection to the New Orleans Saints for the No. 227 overall selection in 2023 and a fourth-round 2024 selection.
The Jaguars on Friday selected Penn State University tight end Brenton Strange with the No. 61 overall selection (Round 2) and Auburn running back Tank Bigsby with the No. 88 overall selection (Round 3). The Jaguars on Thursday selected University of Oklahoma offensive tackle Anton Harrison in Round 1 – No 27 overall.
