McMANUS PLACED ON I.R.; JAGUARS SIGN LB DANA COTTRELL

The Jaguars placed LB Tom McManus on injured reserve today. He suffered a partial tear of his right ACL during the team's practice at Tampa Bay on Saturday. McManus will spend the 1997 season on the injured reserve list. Surgery on his injured knee has not been scheduled.

To fill the open roster slot, the Jaguars signed rookie free agent linebacker Dana Cottrell. Cottrell, 6-3, 234, was signed by Cincinnati on April 25 and was a participant in their training camp. He was waived on July 28 by the Bengals and cleared waivers yesterday. Cottrell is a 23-year-old native of Billerica, Mass.

Cottrell was slotted at inside left linebacker while in the Bengals camp. As a senior at Syracuse, he played outside linebacker and was fifth on the team in tackles with 48 (25 solo). He also had six tackles for loss for 23 yards and one sack for seven yards as the Orangemen posted a 8-3 regular season record. He attended Billerica (Mass.) High School where he earned All-State honors.
