JACKSONVILLE – Josh Lambo's feel-good Jaguars story continues.

Lambo, who stabilized the Jaguars' kicking situation in 2017 and established himself as one of the NFL's top kickers last season, solidified himself with the organization Wednesday by signing a contract extension to remain with the team.

"I'm not quite sure it has set in yet," Lambo said moments after signing the extension. "This whole NFL journey has been a little wild and very unexpected. Now, that I've gotten to a point to where I can sign an extension with this club, it's really special."

Lambo not only signed on a brisk February day at TIAA Bank Field, he did so at the stadium's Pet Paradise dog park. His wife, Megan, and their two dogs – Lana and Wyatt – attended and even "participated" in the ceremony.

"It's a great day for myself, Megan and my dogs – and the whole family," Lambo said. "It's kind of a statement for just what my life is. Obviously, my wife is here – and my dogs – because I wanted them here. It's a big day for me, so it's a big day for them.

He added with a laugh, "I think we're all going to go home and get some treats tonight."

Lambo had been scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on the March 13 start of the 2019 NFL League Year.

"We were coming up to free agency, and it's not terribly far away," Lambo said. "Truthfully, right now at this exact moment in our lives, we didn't see ourselves anywhere else."

Lambo, 28, has converted 38 of 41 field goals and 41 of 44 extra points in 23 games with the Jaguars. He converted 19 of 21 field goals last season, missing the final three games of the season with a groin injury.

"Everything has been good so far," Lambo said of the injury. "The rehab is on track. I'm going to be stronger than I have been the past four seasons. I'm really looking forward to it."

The Jaguars have signed kicker Josh Lambo to a contract extension. Take a look back at some of his most memorable moments in a Jaguars uniform.

Lambo set a Jaguars record with 24 consecutive field goals from November 19, 2017 to November 11, 2018. He converted four of five from 50 yards or more last season, including a career-long 57-yard field goal in an October 28 loss to Philadelphia at Wembley Stadium. He was two-of-two from 50 yards or more in 2017.

Lambo signed with the Jaguars on October 17 of the 2017 season after having been released by the San Diego Chargers following that season's training camp. He became a key part of that season's AFC South title-winning team, converting 19 of 20 field goals.

He also converted multiple clutch kicks in his time with the team, becoming a fan favorite with his post-field goal celebrations and fan-friendly approach off the field.

Lambo, a former elite-level soccer player as a teenager, spent 2005-2008 at the IMG Soccer Academy and was a first-round selection as a goalie by FC Dallas in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft. He made two appearances with the United States U-17 team but retired from soccer at age 21 before attending Texas A&M and kicking for the football team.

"It's been really surreal," he said. "I never, ever could have expected this. When I was still playing soccer, people asked me if I would ever consider playing football and I said, 'No, it would be too boring.' Now, here we are, and I certainly try to make it as exciting as I can with the celebrations and keeping my teammates up as much as I can in every game and celebrating with them."

Lambo, a four-year NFL veteran, originally signed with the San Diego Chargers as a collegiate free agent shortly after the 2015 NFL Draft. He converted 52 of 64 field goals in two seasons with the Chargers, also converting 70 of 78 extra points. For his career, Lambo has made 90 of 105 field goals (85.7 pct.), including 10 of 15 (66.7 pct.) from at least 50 yards.

"You're always hoping that something's going to stick," Lambo said. "Not every club, or every job, is the right fit for everyone. For my personality and how I like to go about my business, this is just the right fit for me. I'm just really fortunate to be in this city.

"We've found really, really good people here both inside and outside the team. We're very, very happy to be here."
