JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed Special Teams Coordinator Heath Farwell to a contract extension, the team announced today.
Farwell has spent the past three seasons (2022-24) as Jacksonville's special teams coordinator and has nine years of experience coaching in the NFL. Jacksonville's special teams unit has produced at least one Pro Bowler in each of Farwell's three seasons with the Jaguars. Under his leadership in 2024, P Logan Cooke earned his first Pro Bowl nomination, while LS Ross Matiscik was nominated for a second consecutive year. Both Cooke and Matiscik were named to the Associated Press All-Pro Second Team. Cooke ranked second in the NFL with a career-high 44.8-yard net punting average, and his 34 punts inside the 20-yard line tied for fourth-most in the NFL. Farwell also helped K Cam Little set rookie franchise records in field goals made (27) and points scored (108). His 93.1 field goal percentage was the highest in franchise history (min. 25 attempts). Little was also selected to the Pro Football Writers Association All-Rookie Team.
In 2023, Matiscik received multiple honors for the first time in his career, being named to the 2024 Pro Bowl Games and receiving AP First-Team All-Pro honors. Matiscik led all long snappers with eight solo tackles and became the first long snapper since 2005 to record one tackle, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in a single game. Cooke set the franchise record for total punts inside the 20-yard line after finishing with 29 during the 2023 season.
Farwell helped K Riley Patterson convert 30-of-35 field goal attempts in 2022, including a game-winning field goal in the Wild Card Playoff game against the Chargers. LB Caleb Johnson was tied for second in the league with 16 special teams tackles. WR and returner Jamal Agnew was named to the 2023 Pro Bowl Games, and in two playoff games, Agnew had seven kickoff returns for 265 yards (37.9 average), including a long of 63 yards against Kansas City in the Divisional Round.
Before coming to Jacksonville, Farwell spent the previous three seasons (2019-21) as Buffalo's special teams coordinator after stops with Carolina (assistant special teams, 2018) and Seattle (assistant special teams, 2016-17). Prior to his coaching career, Farwell played linebacker for Minnesota (2005-10) and Seattle (2011-14). He served as the special teams captain when the Seahawks won Super Bowl XLVIII.
