JACKSONVILLE – Each week during the 2024 season, Jaguars "experts" – Tony Boselli, Frank Frangie, Jeff Lageman, Brent Martineau, John Oehser, Brian Sexton, J.P. Shadrick and Kainani Stevens – will analyze the following day's Jaguars matchup.
Up this week:
Tony Boselli, Pro Football Hall of Famer, Former Jaguars Left Tackle and Jaguars Analyst
- The Jaguars will win if: They can run the ball and stay ahead of the chains. The Titans run defense was awful last week and the Jaguars need to take advantage of it. Defensively, creating turnovers will be key.
- The Titans will win if: They win the turnover margin, and make the Jaguars one- dimensional on offense forcing Jones to beat them.
- As Boselli sees it: This is the last opportunity for the Jaguars to give the home crowd a victory in the 'Bank. Look for ETN and Tank to have a big day closing out the 2024 season at home with a 24-10 victory.
Frank Frangie, Radio Voice of the Jaguars
- The Jaguars will win if: They cover the Titans as well as they did when the two teams played a few weeks ago. They made life tough for then-Titans quarterback Will Levis. Rudolph gets the call, and the Jags should harass him. He is a more accurate passer, but not nearly as athletic as Levis. The Jags also must run some, and get rookie wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. going from the outset.
- The Titans will win if: They can stuff the run with that very good defensive front and keep the Jags behind the sticks. The Jags want to run, but the Titans' front is very good. Overall, despite the tough year, it's one of the best defenses in the league. They also will try to get wide receiver Calvin Ridley behind the defense some as well.
- As Frangie sees it: The Jaguars can sweep the Titans, but Jones must be more efficient in the passing game. He must avoid the big mistakes that have hampered him in recent games, particularly in crunch time. If he makes a few big plays and the Jags stay away from big mistakes, they will win and sweep the Titans, which hasn't happened very often.
Jeff Lageman, Jaguars Analyst and Former Jaguars Defensive End
- The Jaguars will win if: They can generate a few takeaways. The Jags have not had a takeaway in the last five games and they have an offense that needs extra opportunities. Tennessee leads the NFL in giveaways with 32. Titans quarterbacks have thrown six interceptions in the last two games.
- The Titans will win if: They can stop the run and get after Jones. The Titans gave up 335 yards rushing last week to the Indianapolis Colts and will be looking to be much better. Defensive linemen Harold Landry, Arden Key and Jeffrey Simmons will be looking to harass Jones to get his eyes to drop and look for pressure instead of rookie wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr.
- As Lageman sees it: This game ultimately will be about draft position. Titans first-year Head Coach Brian Callahan will be looking to build momentum going into the offseason. Jaguars Head Coach Doug Pederson will look to finish the season with a winning record in the AFC South with two wins to end the season. The Titans games should always matter and here's hoping for an entertaining game for the home fans during the holiday season that will give them something to have a little holiday cheer about.
Brent Martineau, Action Sports Jax Sports Director
- The Jaguars will win if: Either running back, Tank Bigsby or Travis Etienne Jr., has over 100 total yards. It only has happened on two occasions this season. Bigsby had over 100 total yards against Indianapolis and New England and both turned into Jaguars wins.
- The Titans will win if: They win the turnover battle by two or more. Tennessee did this and lost to the Jaguars in Nashville earlier this month. I think if they win the turnover battle again, the Titans will end up on the right side of things this time.
- As Martineau sees it: This is getting very difficult to pick between teams that are not very good. I think the Jaguars will win because they are much better on paper, and they are at home. Those seem like decent reasons, but it hasn't mattered most of the year. The Jags pickup Win No. 4 at EverBank this season with a 23-17 win.
John Oehser, jaguars.com Senior Writer
- The Jaguars will win if: They force turnovers and score two or more touchdowns. These don't sound like difficult tasks – unless you've followed the Jaguars closely this season. Their struggling defense has forced a league-low seven turnovers this season and they have yet to score more than two touchdowns with quarterback Mac Jones starting.
- The Titans will win if: They convert in the red zone and force Jones into mistakes. Jones had his first interception-free game in five starts for injured Trevor Lawrence last Sunday, so the Titans will look to pressure him into turnovers. The Titans failed to score twice when inside the Jaguars 10 in the Jaguars' Week 14 victory in Tennessee.
- As Oehser sees it: This is yet another game the Jaguars should win, but they have lost plenty such games this season. The guess here is Jones and the Jaguars will play inspired in the 2024 regular-season finale. That inspiration could give Jones his first home victory as a starter for his hometown team.
Brian Sexton, jaguars.com Senior Correspondent
- The Jaguars will win if: They can do the little things in a big way. You hear coaches telling players to just do their job and it seems so simple. It has been anything but that for the Jaguars this season. Too many times too many players have abandoned their assignments in critical moments. Wrong routes, blown coverages, lost leverage … the list goes on and on and on. The Jaguars can beat the Titans, but not if they keep digging themselves a hole. Do your job.
- The Titans will win if: Quarterback Mason Rudolph can stand back and pick apart the Jaguars' defensive backfield. It has been the Jaguars' most glaring weakness all season and every quarterback who has had the time has made them pay. Rudolph isn't New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but neither was Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Aidan O'Connell. If Rudolph has time, the Titans will win.
- As Sexton sees it: This is a game the Jaguars should win. The Titans are in a similar situation to the Jaguars – 3-12 playing out the final weeks of a miserable season with a backup quarterback and lots of young players in their lineup. But they're on the road and the Jaguars definitely want to give their fans something to feel good about; they have only won one game at home this season. I think the Jaguars will find a way and get their fourth win of the season.
J.P. Shadrick, jaguars.com Senior Reporter
- The Jaguars will win if: They find any rhythm on offense. The Jags scored two touchdowns last week: one on a short field, and the other on a blown coverage. The rest of the time usually they either gave the ball away on fumbles or went three-and-out. The defense has its own issues with blown coverages, but it only allowed 19 points last week. If the offense has any pulse, it should be able to score that many. Key word: SHOULD.
- The Titans will win if: They protect the football and be patient on offense. There has proven to be a moment or two late in the game where the Jaguars will make a mistake: A blown coverage or a giveaway on offense. If the Titans capitalize on those, then they can win.
- As Shadrick sees it: This Jaguars team works hard. This Jaguars team is in most games. This Jaguars team is just not very good. Maybe divisional games the final two weeks will wake up some kind of spirit, but at this point does it matter? Yes. Go win some games.
Kainani Stevens, Jaguars Team Reporter
- The Jaguars will win if: They can force some turnovers and capitalize on them. Rudolph has been known to throw an interception or two, but the Jaguars have been historically bad this season at forcing turnovers. The 2024 Jags are flirting with franchise history for the fewest forced turnovers in a season. If Jacksonville can buck that trend and also capitalize on offense, then they will have a good chance in this game.
- The Titans will win if: They force Jacksonville's defense to make stops. The Jaguars won in Nashville earlier this month not because they were the better team, but because Levis lost the game for the Titans. This time around the defense will have to deal with Rudolph and try to avoid giving up explosive plays.
- As Stevens sees it: We're near the end of a long and disappointing season for both teams. Whichever team comes out with energy early will have a massive advantage because there is little to play for at this point in the season but pride.
