On Wednesday, May 7th, the Jaguars will help build a home for a Jacksonville family during the annual HabiJax homebuilding blitz. Led by Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver, members of the Jaguars staff as well as ROAR cheerleaders and players Drayton Florence, Tony Pashos and Joe Zelenka will invest sweat equity labor into making the dream of a future homeowner a reality.
The mission of HabiJax is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. HabiJax helps families in need build affordable houses, which they buy at cost with 25-year mortgages, but at no interest - following Biblical principals. These mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is then used to fund the construction of more homes.
HabiJax is the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. HabiJax (Habitat for Humanity of Jacksonville) was founded in 1988. The first home was built in 1989.
