JAGUARS SIGN CHESTER BURNETT

The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed middle linebacker Chester

Burnett, who played for the Washington Redskins in 1998. He

replaces Tom McManus, who was placed on injured reserve

yesterday with a foot injury.

Burnett was waived by the Redskins in the final cuts on September

  1. He was a seventh-round draft choice of the Minnesota Vikings in

1998 and waived before the start of the season. He was signed to

Washington's practice squad and then activated to the 53-man

roster for the final five games of the season, playing both linebacker

and on special teams, where he made two tackles. The 5-10,

238-pound Burnett was a four-year latterman at the University of

Arizona, where he was second-team All-Conference as a junior and

senior. Burnett, 24, is a native of Denver.
