The Jacksonville Jaguars1 second season in the National Football League will kick off with a bang on Sunday, September 1 when the Jaguars host the defending AFC Champion Pittsburgh Steelers at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. Last year the Jaguars1 first home victory was against the Steelers, who capped the season by playing in Super Bowl XXX. The Jaguars will host another AFC Central division rival in week two, with the Houston Oilers coming to town on September 8, but that will be their last divisional game until the ninth week of the season.
The September schedule includes back-to-back road games in weeks three and four, when the Jaguars go to the West Coast to visit the Oakland Raiders on September 15, and then back East to play the New England Patriots on September 22 in a 4:00 p.m. contest. Returning home to close out the month, the Jaguars will host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, September 29 in the first regular-season meeting between last year1s two expansion teams. That game will also be the first of three against NFC teams in a four-week span.
In October the Jaguars will play three of four games on the road, traveling to play the New Orleans Saints in a late afternoon game October 6 before a home game the next week against the New York Jets. They visit the St. Louis Rams for a 4:00 game on October 20, which will be the Jaguars1 second trip to St. Louis this year, including a preseason contest. The Jaguars will close out the month of October by meeting a division rival for the first time in seven weeks when they travel to play the Cincinnati Bengals on October 27.
November will begin with the Jaguars1 idle weekend on November 3, but they will then embark upon a five-game stretch against AFC Central teams, with three of those games on the road. The Baltimore Ravens will come to Jacksonville on Sunday, November 10 in the only 4:00 kickoff on the home schedule. The next week the Jaguars visit the Steelers for their rematch in Pittsburgh before playing the Ravens for the second time in three weeks when they go to Baltimore1s Memorial Stadium on November 24.
In the final month of the season, the Jaguars will play at home in three of their four games, starting with the Cincinnati Bengals visiting Jacksonville on December 1. The following week the Jaguars will play their final game on the road against the Houston Oilers in the Astrodome on December 8. They will return home for the final two weeks of the season, hosting the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night, December 15 in an 8:00 p.m. game that will be televised nationally on ESPN. The season finale will be on Sunday, December 22 against the Atlanta Falcons.
Thirteen of the Jaguars1 16 regular-season games will be televised on NBC and locally on WTLV-TV. FOX will broadcast the September 29 game against the Carolina Panthers and the December 22 finale against the Atlanta Falcons. ESPN will carry the Seattle game the night of December 15.
The Jaguars1 preseason schedule includes home games on Friday, August 2 against the New York Giants and on Sunday night, August 18 against the San Francisco 49ers. The Jaguars1 two road games in the preseason, both on Fridays, will be at the St. Louis Rams on August 9 and at the Denver Broncos on August 23. Both of those games will be broadcast live on WTLV-TV, while the 49ers game on August 18 will also be shown nationally on TNT.
