The Jacksonville Jaguars held two practice sessions today at the practice fields at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium to begin their second week of training camp and prepare for their first game week. The Jaguars will travel to Dolphin Stadium to take on the Miami Dolphins in their first preseason game on Saturday, August 11 at 7:30 p.m.
First round draft pick Reggie Nelson will be among the Jaguars' 17 rookies to compete in their first NFL game this weekend.
"It's something you can look forward to at the end of the week now that we get to play in a game," said Nelson. "We have been in camp for a whole week and I'm just very excited to play in my first game. I just want to try and put it in perspective and go out and play to the best of my ability. I just want to try and tighten everything up this week and go out there and play fast instead of thinking."
In the morning special teams practice, wide receiver Ernest Wilford invited several children from the Bridge of Northeast Florida to attend practice as his personal guests. Wilford is a regular visitor at the community center located off Pearl Street.
"Today I have my kids from The Bridge. These are kids from east Jacksonville and I have been working with them all summer. I decided to have them come out and watch practice today," said Wilford. "I always believed in giving back. Sometimes I can't give them what I want financially, but I can always give time. For some of these kids, that is all they want. Just to hang out with you and get to know you as a person and that is what I'm willing to do."
Camp will continue on Tuesday with two practice sessions at 10:15 a.m. (shorts) and 7:00 p.m. (pads) on the practice fields at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium.
