The Jacksonville Jaguars today held the first of 12 on-field practices
scheduled for the month of June. Every player on the 82-man roster
participated except for two players currently playing in the NFL
Europe League.
"This is an opportunity to go on the field for all of the young
players," said Jaguars head coach Tom Coughlin. "We have a new
direction on defense (under new coordinator Dom Capers), and we
have a lot of players who have a lot of learning to do. On special
teams, this is when we begin to spot people in where we think they
can best make a contribution. And we have a few changes on
offense, too."
The June pre-camp will continue through June 24, with a total of 10
practices and two walk-throughs at Ferrell Fields. Practices on June
21 and June 24 will be open to the media.
"By the end of June, we will have put in our situational offense,
defense and special teams," added Coughlin. "Then we'll re-group
at the end of July for training camp, when the rookies will have
heard everything three times."
The Jaguars' training camp will begin on July 29. The team's first
preseason game is August 13 vs. the Carolina Panthers at ALLTEL
Stadium.
