The Jacksonville Jaguars today activated wide receiver Lenzie
Jackson from the practice squad to the active roster. In addition, the
team signed running back Leroy Collins to the practice squad.
Jackson, 22, was signed as an undrafted rookie in April. He spent
training camp with the Jaguars before being waived in the final cuts
on September 5. He was signed to the practice squad the next day.
The
6-0, 187-pound Jackson was one of the most underrated receivers in
college football in 1998. He started 11 games for Arizona State,
catching 41 passes for 568 yards and five touchdowns. The fifth
all-time leading receiver in school history, Jackson played in 42
games, making 32 starts.
Collins, 23, spent training camp with the Washington Redskins after
signing as an undrafted rookie out of Louisville. He was waived in
the cut to 65 on August 31. A transfer from Alfred University in
1998, Collins started the final nine games last year, rushing 232
times for 1,228 yards and 22 touchdowns and catching 39 passes for
336 yards. His offensive coordinator last year was current Jaguars
QB coach Bob Petrino. Collins is 5-11, 200 pounds
