Jaguars quarterback David Garrard today signed a contract extension and linebacker Akin Ayodele signed his tender offer. Both players were drafted by the Jaguars in the 2002 NFL draft. Ayodele was a restricted free agent.
Garrard, 27, played in four games last season while starting two in place of injured Byron Leftwich. The 6-1, 244-pound quarterback completed 38 of 72 passes for 374 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed 12 times for 76 yards and a score. In 10 career games, the fourth-year veteran has completed 70 of 130 passes for 691 yards and three touchdowns, along with 215 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Ayodele, 25, started every game at outside linebacker last season, finishing second on the team with 131 tackles (82 solo). It marked the third consecutive season that the fourth-year pro has eclipsed 100 tackles in a season. He also recorded two sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and blocked a field goal.
