COMPETITION HEATS UP IN JAGUARS TRAINING CAMP

The Jaguars held their third day of training camp today on Ferrell Fields adjacent to ALLTEL Stadium, and head coach Tom Coughlin said that competition for several spots is, like the weather, already heating up.

"Competition is a good thing in camp," said Coughlin. "It will upgrade our level of play."

But Coughlin added that there is still a lot of time before any decisions have to be made. "It will play itself out, and somewhere along in the preseason we'll see how things end up. The important thing now is for everybody to stay healthy."

Among the positions Coughlin has cited as the most competitive are right guard (Brian DeMarco and Rich Tylski), center (Dave Widell and Michael Cheever), and both cornerback spots (Aaron Beasley, Dave Thomas and Deon Figures). But, equally important, he says, are positions in which there is competition to improve the depth, as well as on special teams.

The Jaguars will practice at 8:40 a.m. and 3:20 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.
