The Jacksonville Jaguars today placed linebacker Brant Boyer on injured reserve because of a neck injury and signed linebacker Eddie Mason, a three-year veteran.
Boyer suffered the injury in the November 22 game at Pittsburgh. He played in the season's first 11 games, making 26 tackles and one sack on defense. He excels on special teams, where leads the team in tackles with 19 (he also led the Jaguars in 1996 and '97).
Mason, 26, played in 15 games with the New York Jets in 1995 and was named the club's special teams MVP. In 1996, he suffered a season-ending knee injury in the preseason and spent the entire year on injured reserve. Last year, Mason was in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' training camp before being waived, and he was in Carolina's training camp this year before being waived on August 25 in the cut to 60 players. The 5-11, 245-pound Mason was a four-year letterman at North Carolina. He is a native of Siler City, N.C.
