JACKSONVILLE – The sacks leader is Pro Bowl-bound and he's not alone.
Outside linebacker Josh Hines-Allen, the Jaguars' all-time single-season sacks leader, on Wednesday night was named to the 2024 Pro Bowl for his performance during the 2023 season. Jaguars long snapper Ross Matiscik also was named to the Pro Bowl.
The NFL announced Pro Bowl selections for the 2023 season Wednesday at 8 p.m.
Allen, a fifth-year veteran, set the Jaguars' single-season sacks record this season when his three sacks in a victory over the Carolina Panthers this past Sunday pushed his season total to 16.5 – two ahead of the former record set by Calais Campbell in 2017. Allen, the No. 7 overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, has three three-sack games this season.
Allen this season has 61 tackles, 41 solo, along with 16 tackles for loss, 31 quarterback hits, two forced fumbles and an interception. His 16.5 sacks ranks third in the NFL and he is the second player since 1982 to record at least 2.5 sacks in four different game, joining Pro Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor (four games in 1986).
Allen also made the Pro Bowl following his 2019 rookie season.
Matiscik, a fourth-year NFL veteran in his fourth season with the Jaguars, leads the team with eight special teams tackles. That total also is first among long snappers. He also forced and recovered a fumble in the Jaguars' Week 11 victory over the Tennessee Titans on November 19. This is Matiscik's first Pro Bowl honor.
The 2024 Pro Bowl games will take place in Orlando, Fla. beginning on Thursday, February 1. The Pro Bowl Games are a multi-day AFC vs. NFC competition with skills showdowns and a seven versus seven flag football game to be played at Camping World Stadium on Sunday, February 4.
