Veteran defensive end Paul Spicer has signed a contract extension with the team. Length and terms of the extension are undisclosed. Spicer, entering his seventh season with the Jaguars, made a career-high seven-and-a-half sacks last year after starting a career-best 14 games.
NOTE OF THE DAY: MATHIS IS CREAM OF THE CROP FROM 2003 DRAFT CLASS: Jaguars cornerback Rashean Mathis leads all defensive backs selected in the 2003 draft in interceptions with 12. Mathis is one of 49 defensive backs selected in 2003 and joins Dallas cornerback Terrence Newman as the only players to start all 48 games since being drafted. Eight defensive backs were selected ahead of Mathis in 2003 including six in the first round. Mathis led the Jaguars in 2005, and shared the lead in 2004, with five interceptions each year.
