JACKSONVILLE – Let's get to it …

I noticed overtime is now as I suggested two or three years ago. I think University of Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham should be the pick at No. 5 and maybe some offensive weaponry in the second and third rounds but trusting Head Coach Liam Coen and General Manager James Gladstone as they seem on the cutting edge of the future of the NFL. The best thing of the offseason, though, is seeing Executive Vice President of Tony Boselli finally emerging from the shadow of Anthony Munoz.
A few thoughts on your (many) thoughts. One is I guess we can all be glad the NFL's rules-makers at last finished cleaning out old emails. Another is Graham is a strong possibility for the Jaguars at No. 5 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, though I in no way would call him a lock there. Still another is I expect the Jaguars somewhere in the first two or three rounds to select a wide receiver who will contribute quickly. STILL another is Gladstone in particular is indeed from this view on the cutting edge of the NFL's future. As for your final point, I have no idea what Boselli "emerging from the shadow" of Munoz means. Munoz is in the conversation as the greatest offensive tackle of all-time, and he and Boselli are close friends. There's no "shadow" in their relationship, only respect.

O, am I naive for hoping that the new defensive coordinator simply believes our line can be improved by having our best pass rushers all out on the field in obvious passing situations? I was perplexed that the previous coach didn't do that even as the season went on and it became very obvious that keeping a "fresh" rotation wasn't yielding much in the way of results...
All NFL teams rotate defensive linemen and pass rushers – with some of that rotating by necessity occurring in obvious passing situations. Do all NFL teams rotate in these situations as much as the Jaguars did last season? No. Are you naïve for wanting to see less rotation and more Travon Walker and Josh Hines-Allen? No, you are not.

Ivan, please allow me to be the first person to introduce you to Zillow. I hear Stark is lovely this time of year.
Ivan doesn't like it when public money funds NFL stadiums. We have a (loosely-adhered-to) policy here in the O-Zone of being nice. It's important to be nice.
Doug from Jacksonville
I reread Ivan's comments. Passionate for sure. But I think he has it a little backward. The city is the one giving the middle finger to Owner Shad Khan not the other way around. Khan will spend hundreds of millions of dollars on a stadium that is owned by the city, not him, and he's contractually obligated to pay a lease on the stadium he paid hundreds of millions of dollars into. Every time there is a non-Jaguar event at the stadium it's like spitting at his yacht!
Neither Khan nor the city is giving the other "the finger" when it comes to the Stadium of the Future. Spitting into a yacht is violation of O-Zone policy.

I reeeeeaally hope we aren't seriously considering a running back at No. 5. I'm sure he is a great player and would have some highlights, but not even AP won the Minnesota Vikings a Super Bowl. And Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty ain't Adrian Peterson. If we don't trade down, do you really think running back would be seriously considered at 5?
Considered? Yes. Is it a dead-solid lock or even likely? Stay tuned. And what if he's Saquon Barkley?

If one of the top two quarterbacks are available at No. 5 and is solely at the top of the draft board, do you pick him?
That wouldn't happen this year because neither Cam Ward of Miami nor Shedeur Sanders of Colorado is considered among the best players in the '25 draft regardless of position. Even if there were a higher-rated quarterback available, the Jaguars wouldn't take him that early in this draft. They believe in starter Trevor Lawrence.
Chris from Tampa, FL
I don't get the worry over drafting at No. 5. Are the projections saying there are only four great players in this draft? History suggests otherwise, as there's always been at least five great players in every draft. So, a great player will undoubtedly be there at five. Just have to pick him.
Fair.
Travis from High Springs
I've always heard the old NFL saying, "The best way to help the quarterback is to have a really strong running game." I've also been hearing from a lot of draft "experts" recently that Jeanty is a Top Three prospect in this year's draft. So if the goal is to get elite players in the Top 5, why hasn't he been linked to the Jags very often?
The main reason Jeanty rarely has been linked to the Jaguars at No. 5 is a general feeling around the NFL and among draft analysts that you don't take running backs in the Top 5 or 10 except under a rare circumstance. That rare circumstance is that the player is "generational." In recent weeks, there is more and more discussion that perhaps Jeanty is a rare circumstance.

Help! I'm stepping into the twilight zone. This is a madhouse, feels like being cloned. Are we really entertaining the idea of Jags spending ANOTHER Top 5 pick on a running back? Have they not used enough resources on the position already? Stop it, running back is not an option at 5. That is all, as you were.
Special is the goal at No. 5. If special is there, it's an option.

I have been following the posts on bands and I feel sorry for everyone! No era can compare with the late sixties and early seventies! Forget that the Beatles were the most innovative band! You had bands like: The Byrds, Poco, Buffalo Springfield, The Kinks, The Youngbloods, The Turtles, The Rascals after they were The Little Rascals, Cream, Led Zeplin, The Doors, all the Motown groups Smokey, the Temptations, The Four Tops, Michael Jackson, The Stones and on and on! And least we forget Lynyrd Skynyrd the best band to come from Jacksonville.
I don't know that there's any reason to feel sorry for anyone here. It's not as if music fans from later eras can't listen to the bands from the late 1960s and early 1970s. And we better not forget Skynyrd, which wasn't only the best band ever from Jacksonville but belongs in most conversations involving the best rock-and-roll bands from anywhere ever.

I understand the interest by some in the Jaguars drafting Ashton Jeanty with the fifth pick in round one if Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter and Penn State edge Abdul Carter are off the board. However, this scenario reminds me of the 2017 draft when the Jaguars took running back Leonard Fournette with the fourth pick in the first round. At the time, I was excited that the Jaguars were able to acquire the stud running back they lacked. Fournette had a good rookie season, but never was able to be the premier running back the Jaguars expected in subsequent years. How do you feel about the Jaguars drafting Jeanty with the fifth pick?
I'm getting used to the idea, though I share and absolutely understand the hesitation.

Jaguars wide receiver Gabe Davis changing his number is killing me. What's he predicting? This year's yards total or how many more games he has to wear a jags jersey?
You're referencing Davis recently changing his number from 0 to 13. And it has come to my attention that despite much counseling and many reminders regarding the matter some people have forgotten that here in the O-Zone it is important to be nice. This was not nice.
Deane from Hill AFB via Daytona Beach, FL
Yom O-Zone!!! Given the current hype/drama surrounding Travis Hunter, do you think it is possible to see him pull an Eli Manning and refuse to play for the team that initially drafted him? What says you O-Zone???
Almost anything's possible no matter how unlikely.

Congrats on your 5,000 days! I was brought up to celebrate days rather than years and 5,000 days is a big one . I remember my 5K party like it was yesterday. I really hope you make 10k and then maybe we will allow you to retire (if you want) . Hey One Fer You!
I have not yet reached 5,000 consecutive days writing the O-Zone. That would be next week(ish). I do not expect the streak to reach 10,000 days. One fer me, though. Absolutely.
