JACKSONVILLE – The analysts are believing the Nick Foles reports.
That is evident in the wake of the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine, with most respected post-combine mock drafts projecting a non-quarterback position to the Jaguars with the No. 7 overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Quarterback was a popular Top 10 projection to the Jaguars in January and February but reports during the combine this past weekend were widespread that the Jaguars could sign Foles – a quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles the past two seasons – as an unrestricted free agent when the 2019 NFL League Year opens Wednesday.
While Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray and Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins were popular pre-combine Jaguars projections, seven of 12 post-combine mocks included in this ninth 2019 mock draft tracker focused on linemen to the Jaguars.
The most popular choice? Florida offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor.
"The Jaguars need to get back to their physical brand of football, and Taylor has the flexibility to play guard or tackle," NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah wrote.
"With Nick Foles expected to come to Florida, the Jags need to beef up the offensive line to protect their new quarterback and create some holes for Leonard Fournette," Todd McShay of ESPN wrote.
Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports and John Clayton of the Washington Post went with another Southeastern Conference offensive lineman – Alabama guard/tackle Jonah Williams – to the Jaguars.
"I'm assuming the Jaguars sign Nick Foles, as that's the way the rumor winds have been swirling lately," Fornelli wrote. "The signing allows the Jags to address another need: the offensive line."
Luke Easterling of USA Today Draftwire projected edge player Brian Burns and Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times projected combine phenom and Mississippi State defensive end Montez Sweat to the Jaguars at No. 7.
"Freakish numbers at the combine have Sweat climbing the draft boards," Farmer wrote.
Paul Dehner Jr. of the Cincinnati Enquirer and Matt Miller of Bleacher Report both projected Mississippi wide receiver D.K. Metcalf to the Jaguars at No. 7.
"The Jacksonville Jaguars have long been rumored as the favorite to land quarterback Nick Foles in free agency," Miller wrote. "Assuming that happens, the Jaguars can use the No. 7 overall pick on building the supporting cast for their new signal-caller."
Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports projected Iowa tight end T.J. Hockenson at No. 7.
"The Jaguars pass on a quarterback after reportedly signing Nick Foles," Wilson wrote. "The hope is that the defense will return to its 2017 form and that the offense will benefit from Foles and the best tight end in this class, Hockenson."
