JACKSONVILLE – Tight end remains a popular projection.
And one player at that position continues to be mentioned frequently by analysts projecting the Jaguars' direction in Round 1 of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Michael Mayer, a tight end from Notre Dame, was again a popular projection for the Jaguars in the 2023 jaguars.com mock drafter. Five analysts in this week's sixth '23 tracker projected tight end to the Jaguars in Round 1, with three projecting Mayer at No. 24 overall.
"Mayer would give them (the Jaguars) an all-around tight end who could prove to be a reliable outlet for [quarterback] Trevor Lawrence over the middle," Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports wrote, with Luke Easterling of NFL Draft Wire writing: "Mayer's well-rounded skill set and blocking prowess would bring an added element to a dynamic offense."
Bucky Brooks of Jaguars Media and NFL Media projected Utah tight end Dalton Kincaid to the Jaguars in Round 1 while Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz of USA Today projected Oregon State tight end Luke Musgrave there.
"The Jaguars could opt for another playmaking tight end to help Trevor Lawrence take another big step in his development," Brooks wrote, with Middlehurst-Schwartz writing: "Musgrave makes plenty of sense as a traditional inline option who could form a formidable connection with Trevor Lawrence as a downfield threat."
Offensive line also continues to be a popular projection for the Jaguars in Round 1, with two analysts projecting Peter Skoronski of Northwestern there.
"He can seamlessly slide inside to guard and play at a high level with his footwork, functional strength, and natural leverage," Ian Cummings of Pro Football Network wrote.
Utah cornerback Clark Phillips also continues to be projected to the Jaguars by multiple analysts, with Damian Parson of The Draft Network calling him "one of the most opportunistic CBs in this class. He competes at a high level and has the ball skills to make quarterbacks pay for testing him too often."
NOTE: The Jaguars are projected to hold the No. 25 selection in Round 1 of the 2023 NFL Draft. The Miami Dolphins have forfeited the No. 21 selection, so the Jaguars hold the 24th selection.
