Mock Draft Tracker 6.0: Big Week for Defensive Lineman and Wide Receivers

022024 Mock Draft 6.0.

JACKSONVILLE – Consider this a week for the defensive interior.

And for wide receivers. And edge defenders.

This is the sixth jaguars.com 2024 mock draft tracker – and this past week was one in which multiple analysts like the defensive front and wide receiver for the Jaguars with the No. 17 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The most popular selection for the Jaguars in this week's tracker: Texas defensive lineman Byron Murphy II, with three analysts projecting him at No. 17 overall.

"Murphy is a squatty but quick penetration player, which fits the role and mold that new defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen has preferred of his interior defensive linemen," Benjamin Solak of the Ringer wrote, with Ryan Fowler of The Draft Network writing, "The former Longhorn not only clogs gaps in the run but can dominate isolated opportunities against centers and guards."

Multiple analysts also projected Florida State edge defender Jared Verse and Louisiana State wide receiver Brian Thomas to the Jaguars in Round 1.

"Thomas is massive, standing 6-4 and weighing 205 pounds, and he used that frame well in 2023, leading the nation in receiving touchdowns with 17," Garrett Podell of CBS wrote.

Other players projected to the Jaguars at No. 17 this past week: Toledo cornerback Quinyon Mitchell, Clemson cornerback Nate Wiggins, Alabama cornerback Terrion Arnold, Oregon State offensive tackle Taliese Fuaga and Illinois defensive lineman Jer'Zhan Newton.

"Fuaga is a humongous 6-foot-6, 340-pound road grater who was a big part of Oregon State's improvement over the last few seasons; he did not allow a sack this season," Blake Brockermeyer of 247 wrote.

Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Media: "Mitchell provides a nice mix of consistency, elite speed, toughness and instincts."
